About Coach Amy

Hi, I’m Coach Amy Zaranek Gaidis! It’s hard for me to believe, but I have been coaching lessons for thirteen years. I started off just coaching pitchers before branching out to hitters, too. I’ve coached every level from 8U through collegiate, in just about every environment from Little League clinics to being a pitching coach at Alpena Community College. I am now the head varsity coach at Grosse Pointe North in addition to coaching lessons. I am also the softball instructor at Lakeside Indoor!

As a player, I was an All-State pitcher and conference MVP at Grosse Pointe North. I still hold several school records in hitting and pitching. I played A-level travel ball in Michigan and North Carolina, and even got to play in Europe! Then I went off to play college ball at Wayne State University, where my team won a conference championship and went to the Women’s College World Series.

As a coach, I believe players should understand the WHY of doing things instead of just how or what. I think each player should be valued for their own talents and that the mental part of the game is just as important as physical abilities. And I believe that everyone learns differently! So while I have a method, there is no cookie cutter approach. Each player gets highly individualized instruction at every lesson.

In May 2023, I earned my Mental Game Coaching Professional certification from Peak Performance Sports in Florida. The mental game is extremely important to me and by becoming a mental coach, I am able to give athletes access to resources and knowledge that I wish I had when I was playing. All of my lessons touch somewhat on the mental game, but I also offer mental skills coaching (both in-person and remote) outside of lessons for players who want to take their game to an even higher level.

It is one of the greatest honors to give back to this game that has given me so much, and I am thankful every time I step in the gym or on the field.
